I have a Buff Orp that is super lethargic and not very responsive. I don't think she will live much longer. I noticed yesterday that she was just laying around on the back porch and not doing much else but I didn't think much of it because she was healthy the day before. Today she was laying in a spot where my chickens don't usually just hang out so I picked her up to check on her. She's lost a lot of weight, she has diarrhea, her comb and wattles are redder than usual. Her head lolls around a bit when I tipped her around checking her over. When I set her down, she was unsteady until she took a step towards my daughter and laid with her head buried in my daughter's lap. I got her a year ago as a "pullet that should lay any day" but seeing as how I've only had half a dozen eggs out of her, I'm suspicious that she's just old. If she's not dying of old age, I would like to try to figure out what's wrong so that I can protect the rest of my flock. Thoughts?
