I have a questions about chickens what are the quietest chickens and noisey ones?? We have buff Orpington chickens and they are so noisey in the morning when they want out of there hen house.. We are afriad they will bother our neighbors.. Did we purchase the most noisest chicken or what?? We have 6 of them and are considering getting rid of 3 of them to manage the noise...Thanks

Oh wow, most people will tell you BO's are among one of the quietest breeds. I have two and mine really are pretty quiet, although when singing the egg song they can be pretty loud for a few minutes at a time. Also, one of them is very entitled. If someone else is in the nest box and she decides its her turn, she will pace back and forth in front of it yelling at them loudly to hurry up. As soon as the nest box is free, the noise stops.

Are chickens legal where you are? If so, I would worry less about a little hen noise. You might try talking to the neighbors to see if it is bothering them as much as you think it is. It might be a case where you are either closer to or more sensitive to the noise they make than the neighbors actually are. If you are on relatively good terms with them, you might try offering them eggs every now and then, which will probably make them happier to put up with a little noise.

I just have one Buff Orp and she is pretty quiet. How big is your coop? Do they have food and water in the coop? They might be making noise in the morning because they need something, i.e. food, water or more space. Otherwise, I agree with hechicken, talk to the neighbors and see what they say. Good luck.

I agree with the others on here, my buff orpington's are the exact same as theirs and I also agree that they are in need of something in the morning that's making them make noise. Maybe throw a few vegetable scraps down after they go to roost in the evenings so that they have "treats" when they first wake up and before you can let them free range. I have over a hundred birds in total and my buff's are some of the quietest ones that I have.

We have three buff orps and they are relatively quiet too. They only get loud after laying an egg. In our flock it's the bantam that is loud! She sounds like a laughing hyena when she gets going. Have you talked to your neighbors? Maybe talking to them will help you know how to proceed. Are they annoyed or fine? Bring a dozen eggs with you...it might help! LOL!

we've got whites, buffs, blacks and a few other project orps plus other breeds.. not to bad other then a regular crow off between the roo's, but the hens are very very quiet for the most part, however we don't worry about the nabors..if they don't like it they can move back to the city..lol

Well my husband had let them run a muck in our yard and pretty much destoyed our flower beds and dug up flower.. So we are reining them in a lil so they are being very defiant.. The neighbors say they don't bother them and we do give them eggs quite often.. They let out some very crows at times some noiser then others. It is mostly in the morning because they want to be fed. Thanks alot for your opinions and suggestions.
