Buff Orpington chicks or eggs? Where?

First TIA! And yes, I did search but didn't find anything current ...

I want to get Buff Orpingtons in early Spring. I want meat and egg laying birds, not show quality but pretty birds that are healthy with good genetics. I can do eggs or chicks with a slight preference to chicks. I should note that I am looking to get 30, possibly more.

Who are the good sources for these chickens? Hatcheries or private parties with a track record are fine with me. Again, I want good quality birds, not cheap at all costs but, with a reasonable "utility" price point.

Best Regards,
Sid

Well, I've ordered before from Ideal several times and the experience has always been pleasant. I've never gotten buff orps from them so I don't know how their quality is with them, but I've been happy with other birds I've gotten. I'll be breeding utility quality buffs in the spring, but I'd only have eggs, not chicks.

Thanks! I'll keep them in mind as Spring draws near.

My wife and I were both raised in the great state of Texas, not far from where you live (Blue Ridge for her, Greenville for me). I've ordered Buff Orpingtons from four different hatcheries over the years; Dunlap Hatchery, Murray McMurray Hatchery, Ideal Poultry, and Cackle Hatchery, and I've been happy with the BOs from all four hatcheries. Even though it is a smaller, family run hatchery, Dunlap is my favorite of the four. The folks at Dunlap are very friendly and helpful, and I've never lost a single chick in shipping from Dunlap (I can't say that about any of the other three hatcheries), however since you live in Texas, you might want to go with Ideal Poultry as they are the closest one to you and the chicks would not have to travel as far in the mail. Good luck in getting your Buff Orpingtons.

I drive through Greenville every time I go to Oklahoma to visit family. I have friends in DFW too though, I really dislike the Dallas traffic so I generally avoid that route to OKC.

Thanks for the Dunlap Hatchery recommendation. It looks like they have high quality birds and stock what I want.

Ideal Poultry looks like it might make a good detour back from the coast so, I'll keep them in mind too.

Thanks Again!
