Buff Orpington chicks with black spots

Boy, we looked at a lot of different chicken varieties and Buff Orpington was the one we decided would fit us best. And the guy who sold us the eggs supposedly is a local fair champion, so it strikes me as strange that he'd sell us mutts listed as pure bred buff orpingtons. Any thoughts on what variety these could be? I'd like to give this guy a call and let him know... I can take a few more pictures if needed.

I had my BO broody hatch some of my own eggs, I have a BLRW roo. They have those markings on the head, but also some have very light 'chipmunk' stripes on their backs. I am excited to see what they will look like when they are grown. But I do have one older chick (turned out to be a roo) that looked like that as a chick, and he is a little darker brown than the BOs, and is getting a black 'collar' on his neck, and will probably have black in his tail. Your chicks will probably be at least mostly buff like the Orps.

I have some half EE, half BO chicks and they look sorta like the OP's except the wings are also coming in with some markings on them too. They are FAT little boogers, but it's mostly fluff! They came out of smallish eggs too, so it was funny seeing them run around with the smaller looking chicks!

I know this is old, but I just wanted to report that I've learned that some buff orpington's will hatch with those black spots on their head and it is normal. What it usually means is that the buffs with those black spots will grow to develop a richer, deeper buff color. Generally it will show up in their tail feathers when they are older, sometimes the wing. That pepper in the tail is necessary to keep the buff color. Without it, the buffs will eventually breed to be too light colored.

We thought we had a BO with a black spot... it turned out it was a light EE. As a chick though, she really looked like a BO. You chicks are super cute though!
I had BO rooster-> 2 eggs with SLW hatched, both have dark spot, one body more golden than the other. A 3rd egg EE, Also with the dark spot and I believe Wheatan EE hen. So are they all males? Or irrelevant? Thanks everyone..
More hatching now
