We have 7 chicks that are 11 weeks old....3 Buff Orpingtons (one is a roo), 2 Easter Eggers, and 2 Barred Rocks. One of the Orps, her name is Jagger, used to be very friendly towards people. When the chicks were indoors in a brooder for their first few weeks, Jagger would fall asleep purring on me. When the chicks were a little older, they were in a dog crate on our porch and I'd take Jagger into an enclosed room in our house to bond with her individually. She'd follow me around, fly up on my legs, my shoulder, sit on my finger when I told her to, etc.

The chicks are now in the coop and Jagger doesn't come to me or voluntarily hop on my finger like she used to. She will still fluff up when I call her a pretty bird, but she doesn't seem to care about me at all now.

Why could this be and how could I make her more interested in me? I plan on showing her perhaps when she's older and maybe harness training her and taking her places like Tractor Supply Co. but now I don't know how we'll get to that point.

Welcome to BYC! They all have different personalities, don't they. Treats can help but some individuals are more standoffish.
Anyway, enjoy your birds, and BYC as well. Lots of chicken info here...

:welcome She's just being a teenager. Eventually most birds come to like the flock more than the caretaker. As a kid I had a human imprinted gander who followed me every where. That is until he was about 3 years old and I bought 6 goslings. It took him 2 days to realize that he was a goose and not a feathered human.

I'm just confused because for example our Easter Eggers have been skittish from the start and I've accepted that as much as I spoil them they still aren't that people oriented. Jagger was always extremely friendly so maybe the coop is too distracting or something...if I take Jagger into our home again in a closed room maybe she'd be more willing to be friendly.

Post a pic when you get a chance...is there any possibility that she is a he?

I'm almost absolutely sure it's a female. We have an Orp that's a rooster who is most noticably a rooster so compared to him there's no way she could be a roo.

I think she's just a teenager... my chicks were super skittish at that point in time, but soon they were back to following me around and tripping me wherever I went:)
