Auntie's observations:

I've mentioned this before. There has been a recent influx of well-intentioned young people to BYC. They seem to think that BYC is more like Discord or something similar, where following people and getting likes and whatnot is important. Now, this is in Random Ramblings, so that's all well and good.

But what I think is happening is that the two chicken camps (the older chicken-focused camp and the younger social camp) are encountering one another, and there is friction, or - at the very least - an uncomfortable adjustment.

My vast, vast experience (read: expertise) with the younger generations has led me to recognize that the aforementioned younger camp has a limited worldview due to lack of life lived, not through any real fault of their own. Many exist in a figurative snow globe, if you will. Beyond that, they are out of their element. Inside of that snow globe, the older camp is out of its element.

So let's be nice to the young uns and endeavor to not upset the snow globe. They'll figure it out as they get older and likely look backwards and cringe.
Ya, I can see this point of view. I joined byc to learn about chickens, not as a social media. It did become more of a social place for me but tbh I think it's actually made me better at dealing with people. Us "young uns" also need to experience the real world, not just our fairy tale snow globe, I do cringe at a lot of my posts when I first joined and I know I will probably cringe at these posts later too.

I don't fathom how anyone can hate a chicken. I get folks may not like how one particular breed or hybrid looks, but to hate a chicken seems dismissive. But then I'm a gal who has a collection of special needs chickens. Every chicken I have had the pleasure of knowing has been very individual. Even if they aren't calendar-perfect, show quality birds, there is always something to love.
I don't hate a chicken. I hate a type of chicken. I have one of said disgusting chickens, but I love her as an individual. Is she a nice looking barf orpington? Heck no 🤢🤢

But her coloring and fluff is much nicer and mor even than most of the birds I've seen on here. She definitely wouldn't win any beauty pageants though.

I can't decide if that's better or worse than openly disliking people... 🤔
In my case, better. If I were to openly dislike them I could be a very mean person, but I keep my ugly opinion to myself, because even if I don't like someone I can at least be nice.

So are we talking about show vs pet quality? I admit I haven't read this whole thread.

Totally get what you're saying, though, about disliking a type.

Okay . So they are the same.
Poor @AmeraucanaHank . He is so concerned about his chicken. I’m positive that your post made it worse.
He asked for opinions. If he wasn't open to being roasted he should not have asked for it

I'm not going to lie to him and tell him I think his bord is gorgeous, because she's not.

Yes. We may have our opinions , but if you don’t have something nice to say, don’t say it. Excellent post!
