Buff Orpington Hen died suddenly, strange growth (Graphic Photo)

My hen was dead in the run this evening, had this strange growth on her neck I hadn’t seen before. Anyone seen something like this before? Is this a cancer or a pecking injury? We removed the rooster 5 days ago, and just have 5 hens (well, now 4). The run allowed more than 10 sq ft per bird.

I’m sooo sorry about for bird!!! I’m not to sure what it is. Did you ever notice this?
 
Sorry for your loss. It looks like some sort of fecal matter ball/poop. That should be pretty easy to confirm if you still have her body. Since this was yesterday you very well may have already buried her, but if you do still have her body, and are curious about what may have happened, you could try sending her to your state veterinary necropsy lab. If not many people do it themselves.
