Buff Orpington just died in my arms

A blue/purple comb might have indicated lack of oxygen/heart attack. Pink comb is something of a mystery.
Again, I am so soooo sorry.

I'm sad for your loss. I care greatly about the health and happiness of my flock, but i keep a mental distance from them in case of predator attack or culling time rolls around.

GET MORE CHICKENS! Getting attached to one is a very hard loss. Having a loss from a flock is less so, as they come and look to you for food and care and quickly push the thoughts of loss out of the way, caring for those that still follow your motions.

We have had a hard time with yard chickens that have engaged us, made us laugh, and sadly were lost to predation, or 'sudden death' issues. Some just pass for no obvious reason. Doesn't matter. We move forward, and gather the memories.

I'm so sorry about your hen, it is never easy when they die but it was nice that you were there for her. Buff orps are so very sweet, I have 6 of them and love them all dearly. Wish I knew what could have happened. If you could, an autopsy might help. Unfortunately even then, the results can be inconclusive.

I have had 2 die and I never knew what happened. One was just under their roost one morning, stiff and very gone and the other got sick slowly. I had her put down because she was clearly suffering. We sent her to Cornell and even they didn't know what killed her. So sad. My heart goes out to you.

Wowy zowy I am hurting for you Blondie is my BO and she is the only hen I had left after the coon attack last year and I am very attached to her and like you are very soft and sentimental about my girls. I would be crushed too. I feel so bad for you and hope you can find it in your heart to remember her with smiles and not what happened at the end. We all live our lives the longest we can and she lived it full to I bet. My heart ant thoughts are with you.

Thank you all.
I kind of wish I could distance myself from these girls emotionally but I can't seem to make myself feel less for them. I know this probably sounds silly but I've been that way about animals for as long as I can remember.
Thanks again for all your thoughts.
