Day 21: all three hatched but one didn't make it. It was lying in the food bowl and the broody was sitting talking to it and trying to get it back under her . Have moved them onto the floor now as we have had chicks fall out the nest box in the past so thought it would be best to do it now. These are the first of my own eggs to ever hatch! 100% fertile!

Bella is broody now and she is really bad! She had two eggs so I took them away and replaced them with an egg that I think will be fertile and one that I don't think is and she went back to her nest and say I front of the eggs so they were just sitting behind her! She also comes off her nest and she clucks like a normal broody but then she kind of just gets bored and starts acting normal!

She's evil! She sits quietly on her eggs like she is going to let you fiddle on then when you least expect it she goes for you! And the dad is a Jersey Giant. Mother is Daisy's chick from last year which is a Light Sussex! One also might be from Bella's mothers (mother hen on here to) Speckled Sussex chick from last year

I'm used to the full vocabulary but got a new one this morning. We got our aaaawwwwkkk, our buk buk buk, our bawk bawk, your cluck, squawk, bugawwwk but

-today- there were two Buff Orps in two of the orange home depot bucket nesting boxes (they dont like the blue Lowes buckets must be the color orange they prefer) and I reached into a third to grab two eggs and one of the Buff took great offense to my reaching and arched her back and neck backward stuck her beak straight up in the air 90% and went OWW OWW! It scared me because it was unexpected and loud being indoors made it seem louder especially up close like only one bucket away.

We made the same observation about HD vs Lowe's buckets. (When you have 1 of each, and the HD bucket has 5 eggs to Lowe's 0, you kinda get the hint that they ain't loving the blue!)

I just can't get enough of them lol. We have 4buff orps. , 1 red pullet (whatever that is), and 4 Easter eggers! I started out with just the Buffs and the red pullet but I needed more!
