*Buff Orpington Thread!*

The odds were not in your favor.
Stay away from the hunger games.

I wonder about straight run, if maybe some of the sexed males  get tossed into the straight runs.
That's what I told my husband. I said that's probably how they get rid of their Roos. Put them in a bin and call them straight run.

Why are they missing feathers?
If its just molt....Nutrena Feather Fixer and protein.
If its parasites...treat the parasites, then Nutrena Feather Fixer & proein.
If it's another bird or animal attack or fighting...shoot something, then Nutrena Feather Fixer & Protein....LOL

Fix what is causing the problem, then get feathers back on them.
If they don't get enough back by winter then house them warm enough until they do!
She has no parasites and her feather loss started with the rooster riding her back. While the other one is a product of the same thing (rooster riding) she didn't go as bald as the other one and her feathers are growing back in. Only one chicken out of 15 has this problem. Don't think it's the molt since she is still laying. My poor Martha looks soooooo bad. Want to wrap her in a nice sweater.

We'll today is a sad day I just got rid of all 4 of my orpingtons

4 Out of 4 straight run chicks ended up being Roos. I would have kept one but I also have an EE Roo and the only hens I have are EEs so I thought I should keep him incase I wanted to hatch some. Anyway I'm sad they were sweet chickens!

Awwww...that makes me sad too. :(

May I ask where they came from? I'm really sorry for your loss! I am DREADING the possible discovery of a roo in my flock. I love each one so much, and I can't keep a roo due to our city ordinance. Give your EEs some extra loves...

I was too scared to go straight run, but even with sexed chicks there is only 80% - 90% accuracy. If it's ever a possibility for you, the shipping is $49, but I had an excellent experience with mypetchicken.com & they have Buff Orpingtons readily available. I'm trying to hatch out 2 Buff Orpington eggs from Meyer, so I'll be having the straight run experience if any of my eggs survive.

I'd find out who mypetchicken dropships from since they are not a hatchery. If Mt. Healthy, your Buff Orps will most likely not be properly sized for Orps. Mine are look a month younger than they age they truly are-I've had breeder quality Buff Orpingtons over the years as well as my original two from Ideal (never buying from that place again, not ever).

Can you please tell me what Mt. Healthy means? Where do you recommend getting Orpingtons from?
