*Buff Orpington Thread!*

Opinions on this strapping young man.
I ask because he's free to anyone close.
Due to extenuating circumstances and a family medical emergency, he's gotta go.

Hi All, I got home today and my beautiful buff Marj wasn't looking so well which is strange because this morning things were fine. One odd thing is that 7 of my hens have not laid in a week and I'm in Australia so it's not cold here. When I got home she was looking very sad so I checked if was egg bound and nothing, then suddenly she started vomiting up cloudy liquid then she started shaking then she died. She was only 11 months old. I thought snake bite but no signs of anything on her. Her mouth did smell sour which is the only thing I thought was odd. Any thoughts my fellow chicken lovers?
RIP Marj
Hmmm, I lost a 18 month old BO earlier this year to something very similar. Her crop wouldn't clear. I had the vet flush it twice and she finally did crop surgery to clear it. She found nothing in there that appear to be blocking her crop. I do catch my hens eating pine shavings, leaves and other things that seems like they just shouldn't be eating.

I thought the hen was better but the problem came back. It was like there was something wrong w/ her crop and it wouldn't clear. Her crop ballooned up and she was full of nasty liquid. She also started having seizers and I took her to the vet and had her put down. Because I couldn't bear to watch her suffer. She was my most favorite hen of all times. I cried and cried until there were simply no more tears.

I'm so sorry for your loss. I really wish I knew what happened to her. I do have some plants in the yard that are toxic, like Hydrangeas. But I don't see them pecking at them. But I am suspicious are they eating something else that is causing paralysis of their crop? I currently have 1 Jersey Giant and 3 BO's and all are fine. So I just don't know what to think. But it still bugs me that I lost that hen.

I can't tell if he falls into SOP... actually, with the streaking in his tail I am going to say he doesn't but his color is beautiful! Good luck.

You're probably right about the streaking and I'm a novice so you would know, but he is a pretty boy and he knows he's the biggest thing in the flock.

My new roo. Picked him up last night. He's in a wire cage right now and the hens can see him. They are all quite excited.

Sorry for the fuzzy pictures. My lens must have been fogged up.
