*Buff Orpington Thread!*

I've got a BO who will be a year old next month. I've noticed the back of her comb turning purple from time to time. I'll go check up on her a little later and then it's bright red again. I've read that it can be a sign of stress or a circulation problem.

I'm in California and the weather is very mild so I don't think she's too hot or cold.
She's not molting.
She lives in a HUGE run with three other hens and they all get along great.
She acts normal, eats, drinks, lays eggs.

So I'm just keeping an eye on her. Anyone else ever noticed something like this? Can you think of anything else it could be that I should be concerned about?

Hello, I am new here and a first time chicken owner. I thought I'd join this thread and share a couple pics of my new Orpingtons. Here they are 2 days old, but they are almost 3 weeks old now. I also have 4 EE that pick on the orpingtons and 2 Rocks.

Yea, crossed my mind. We did have a really wet December and their dust bathing holes were flooded out. I made one for them but they didn't like it. I just made a new one and they are still exploring it.

I've looked her over and I don't see anything on her. I've got some guys coming to work on the coop this week and I'll give it a big spring cleaning and check her again.

Hello! Thought I'd share my little flock of Buffs. It's my first time owning Orpingtons. I have 2 Brahmas and Australorps.

One of the girls. The other two are hiding behind her.

When do Orpingtons start laying?

(either Dolly or Sunshine, can't tell, they both look alike!)

Hello Dolly or Sunshine!

Our Buffs started laying at 23 weeks but I know some fellow Buff owners who have had them start as early as 18 weeks and as late as 28 weeks.

Welcome chickmammy! Your babies are precious and they will probably end up being your favorite girls.

Mango is certainly a handsome roo. It seems he has been busy too.

Please post pics when his chicks hatch. We don't have a broody yet and I refuse to buy an incubator (because I am afraid I won't be able to control myself, LOL!) so I am living vicariously through all of you who are hatching chicks right now.
