I wish she had a buddy to transition with, but I'm thinking a night time, weekend attempt. That way I can get up before they do and keep an eye on things. So far this method has not failed me.

Hi! New to the thread. I have 4 BO chicks. I was wondering about coloring ... I have one that has super dark down and one that has super light down (she is darker than the white Leg Horn, but not much) and the other two are in the middle ... Is this at all indicative of what color they will feather-out to? Is there a spectrum of colors for the breed?
Oh and one more unrelated inquiry, is it normal for the chicks to almost double in size approaching one week old (they are 1 week today)? I swear that they grew overnight and are starting to take leaps flapping their wings! (Never had chicks before, lol) They have changed so much, I noticed yesterday that they were getting tail feathers!

They grow up super fast. They should be almost full sized by roughly 4 months, but continue to fill out anywhere from a year to a year and a half.
The coloring may indicate a variation in the buff shade, but I learned that they can really surprise you after their first official molt. That's when you'll know for sure what color they will stay.
