Ok thanks I had one lay an egg on the roost and all the chickens started to eat it when it broke

I've had that happen. If your eggs have good shells on them, chances are the hens may give them a peck or two and give up. Especially, if you have nest curtains and the nests stay dark. I find that helps. The hens lay and then walk out and don't really look back at what they laid and if they do, can't see well in the dark.

But crack open an egg and it's party time. I've dropped one before when collecting and good luck trying to clean that up before they get in there to eat it. Eggs are good eats.

Just try and get out right away to collect eggs for a few days so they don't get any ideas. You should be okay. If they do start eating them, you can try blowing out a few eggs and filling them with spicy mustard. They typically, don't like the taste of that and will stop.
 
Omg the scarves on those buffs!!! I have to make some for my girls. Here's Bernice in the snow for the first time too ;)
