*Buff Orpington Thread!*

Hmmm.. interesting dark legs, I can't tell from the picture.. does she have puffy cheeks? I f so I would say Easter Egger. If not you may be able to narrow it down due to the dark legs.

No she doesn't have have a muff or anything like that. Her legs and feet are black with sort of yellowish white underside. The tips of her tail feathers are interesting and I don't remember my other older australorp having the same shape. It's kinda hard to explain and I don't know if there's a term for it. I've been trying to get a good picture that shows the detail but no luck so far. She's a mover.

Picture doesn't do it justice. They sort of taper down towards the end and then fan out wider to sort of a circular tip. When she stretches her wings I can see the same thing on underside wing feathers. I don't know if that makes any sense but it's the best I can think of to explain it.

Does the black one have white wing tips? Like, the very tip, you might need to extend her wing to even see it. I have raised Black Australorps, and they have white wing tipps until they are adults.

She doesn't that's part of what was throwing me off. I'm not very experienced but I have a pair of 2 month old Australorps a female and a male I believe. They both still have the white here and there. Other than that and the odd shape of tips on certain feathers she looks a lot like the pullet did.

That is odd. Perhaps she is a ''Australorp'' that is must not well bred. :idunno

I agree your little Buff is most likely a cockerel. The black one, like the others, I have never seen Black Australorps or Black Orpingtons offered in a feed store - Black Orpingtons usually bring in $$.
It's possible (he?) could be an Australorp - yes, I'm leaning toward the black one being a boy too

My new chicks just came in yesterday and I have 2 BA in the batch, they have white wing tips.

I'm not a breed or sex expert, so you may want to ask on the "what breed" forums.

Yes I was just about to say that's the exact theory I'm going with on this one. Thanks for your thoughts.

Guess I won't be getting my buff hen this year. I said I wasn't buying anymore this year. I didn't really want another rooster either but now we've bonded with saving his life and all. Looks I'm planning coop 3 this summer. He'll probably need his own flock...chicken math strikes again.
