Just a warning for those not aware: Be REALLY CAREFUL if you use zip ties. Check them regularly and replace if they start getting tight. They need to be loose but not so loose that they can get them off. More than once has someone had their chicken permanently crippled because they didn't pay enough attention.

are there any problems with rubber bands? thats what i have used
Spiralettes are cheap , and much safer. They are reusable too. Anything you put on a growing Orp has to be checked OFTEN ! As cockerels get older, make sure any band is ABOVE their spurs. I 've seen bandettes get wedged between the spur and the foot , and cause a lot of swelling.

I LOVE using various colors of vetrap bandaging on chicks...it has some give and it stays put and easy to remove and replace as they approach the age for more permanent banding.

I couldn't get the spiralettes to work. :( My chicks just kept managing to get them off no matter what breed I put them on!
