HAha crazy things will do such silly stuff. You just never know. Love that pic. I have a fence similar to that around my garden and am only surprised I haven't seen the same thing. Thanks for the appreciation of this crazy girl anubisnut & MorgansManor. She also likes to roost on the livestock fence wire. Likes too, but I won't let her though. Every nite I go out to shut coops and there she is up on the wire. Even when it rains. The fencing is starting to lean over. Only one time she over shot the fence and I had to go around and pick her up. I think she just wants attention. hahaThat's just precious!![]()
Maybe she doesn't like the mud? Smart chicken.Lildinkem~ that's a great pic. Such a rebel.
Possibly if she had a proper roost out of the mud , she would stay put , Bill. Her tummy looks pretty muddy. Try that. You can see she is starting to bend the top row of wire.
Same place every nite. Lucky I have alot of dogs to keep the Red Fox away that use to come in the yard.

my chickens always seem to like the rain & go out. I don't have much grass in their yard (they ate it all) so when it rains it is a mud hole & they love it they will scratch in the muddiest place they can find then when its time for bed they are covered. they are happy with the mud so I let em be. like you said they are chickens! I had a black sex link & she would sleep in a tree every night so I let her. don't know why but she wanted up there instead of her nice roost in the coop. like yours she wanted to be different! funny the things chickens do thats why I love em!I guess you do not know, since you never have been here, but she does have a "proper" roost in a 4' x 8' coop. I do not throw mud in my coops so she can go inside it with the cockerel and her sister to stay outta the rain and mud. It is called rain and their pen is under trees to keep the sun from bleaching them out. No grass grows under my forest where they live. They can go in the coop or under the coop IF they choose to not get dirty. My pen in the barn has an opening to the outside in another pen, they choose to go out when it rains. We are in the upper midwest and it rains. There has been 2+ inches of rain today there is mud and they still rather be outside and she rather roost in the rain. It was raining when I went out to take this pic and put her up like I do every nite. I remember you giving the 11 year old kid Johnn a hard time about the mud that his birds live in UK.
Yesterday when it is sunny and no rain, looks like their bellies have no mud. Their chickens, not the smartest animal on a farm. Nor the cleanest. haha
I do not cage my breeders. Only those who want to show birds will cage their birds.
