*Buff Orpington Thread!*

She is a beautiful girl....I am so confused.  Our buffs our about 3 1/2 months old and we have one with a comb and waddle like this as well but the other 3 do not, only small combs.  Everyone tells me she is a rooster, but I don't see the tail feathers.  When do the girls start getting larger, red combs and waddles?  Thanks.
The girls start getting red combs when they are about to begin laying, around 5 months. The big comb on the one you have means it is more than likely a boy. Boy's combs get red quite young.

We figure he is a rooster too. Not seeing any saddle feathers or noise making so we are waiting patiently for the rooster traits to come. Maybe he is more laid back cause we have a hen then acts like the rooster should!

Do BO's usually go through a mean spurt at around 3 months old? I ask as my sweet girl is over the last couple days has started to get mean, especially at night when I go tuck them in, give them some love and say goodnight. She raises her head, neck out and pecks me repeatedly as if saying, leave us alone! While yesterday she let me pick her up and snuggle with her. Today when I went in the coop she ran at me, head raised and pecked at me again...so I ran back at her...we will see what happens tonight but I suspect the same behavior. Is this normal?

I got some Buff Orps the other day and they are so sweet and friendly! They are not scared like the others they just come right up to me and jump on my hand! I am lovin them already!

This is just a few of them, I got 12.

Do you have a rooster? If not, your hen may be taking on the rooster role and "protecting her flock". It's unusual with orps, but it happens with other breeds.

you have to be the Alpha in the flock or you will get attacked, get a small broom or pvc pipe and give her a whack even if she is being nice at the moment, that chick needs to be put down a peg or two or you will have to kill her later
