I have a question, may sound dumb but this batch of new chicks seem different than my other batches and there may be a rooster in the mix. These chicks seem to be flying at each other like they're fighting. There's one in particular that goes around and puts its foot on the backs of the others. Never had buffs do this as chicks. They are two weeks old and super active. Still observing behavior patterns and when something different comes up I have to ask.

Such a pitifully cute pic I had to share!

My latest hatch has a massive herniated "umbilical cord" It seems totally fine otherwise. Walking around dragging the thing behind it!! Well it scratched it and it started bleeding and sticking to the bedding. This all I knew to do to help. I'm researching it, but until I figure it out I bandaged it up.

Poor chick I feel sorry for it, but it does look funny in under wear.

Is it the cheei, or the area in front of her eye?How old is she ? Can you post a photo ?

I had a beautiful Orp named Ladybird, she was my only Orpington of the flock and she was definitely the most beautiful. She was a great, docile layer with large tan eggs but unfortunately my grandparents came home one day to her passed away outside her pen. With no blood or sign of a struggle, we figure a heart attack caught her as she ran from the pen.
Curiosity killed the cat!...Or rather, the chicken.
However sad this is, she was a truly good chicken and my favorite for a reason. She was sweet and gentle and kind with the other chickens. I was nervous because many of my chickens were from different flocks and I didn't know how they would do when sorting the pecking order but Ladybird found her place and proceeded to kiss or rather lick the other girls combs. Such a sweet girl! I highly recommend Orpingtons, just watch for their curiosity.
RIP Ladybird.

My little one didn't make it. The intestines managed to come out, so I decided to call it quits. No need for it to suffer. My 1st chick to have to do that to. Wow. I hope not too many more!
