Can anyone tell me if it is easy for a wing to be broken. I caught a neighbor kid kick 1 of hens yesterday and now her wing is hanging and swollen.

She was eating and drinking this morning then curled up in a corner. And it figures she is my favorite hen. Her name is Queen and she is just that. She was also my late roos favorite girl, where he went she went and where I went they went. I've had a rough time with her since he past and now this. Why is it people think they can treat an animal like that? Where has respect, honor and love gone? I think i put the fear of god into that little girl. I snatched her up, whipped her A**, then took her to her mother and told them if she stepped 1 foot on my property I would charge her with trespassing.

And I say that as the parent of an 8 year old. ANY child coming in my yard who showed ANY behavior of that nature would NEVER be welcome in my yard behavior.

She won't be back. This is the first time I ever seen this from her. I hammer it in to my kids to have respect for all creatures even ones intended for slaughter. Well especially ones going to slaughter, they are after all giving their lives for us to live. That is the most noble death there is. I even give the remains from the slaughter a respectful and honorable burial and thank each one for their sacrifice. If you can't tell I love all animals. They are better people than most people. That's why I have 16 chickens 1 dog 3 cats and just got 7 breeding rabbits for meat. Next year I am getting ducks, turkeys and pheasants also for raising food.

That kick may have dislocated her wing, or broken it. Better get her to a vet to be checked.

I can feel your anger just reading your post. I would go crazy if anyone laid a finer on one of mine!

My neighbor across the road left her gate open and one of her dogs got out and came over into MY yard and killed one of MY chickens.  I'm gonna have to keep them in the backyard now for fear of loosing any more.  I'm now down to 5 chickens out of the original 8 I bought last year and I have 3 Buffs and 3 BSL's that are 4 weeks old in the spare bedroom. I am sooooo very mad and upset. My chickens have never gone into anyone else's yard.  It is not fair that people let their dogs roam and do things like this.   If I would have had a gun, I can tell you I would not have any qualms about shooting that dog in MY yard.  I keep my dog contained - it's not that hard.  Really, really mad that this happened again - want to go shake somebody.

My neighbor across the street, the one that has the dog that kills my chickens is so upset. She came to my door on Monday to tell me how awful she feels. She broke down and cried. She is an older lady who's taking care of her mentally disabled grand child and she has done a lot for us, like feeding the animals when we had to be away. We've known her for 19 years, ever since we've lived in this house. Anyway, she is going to get me some more buff orpington babies on Wednesday and a large bag of chick starter. The only problem is I have a heat lamp on my older chicks but it's up high so the temperature is only about 75 since they are pretty much feathered in. Don't know how I'm going to do this since the babies need higher temps and I don't think I want to put them in with the older chicks since the cockerel is kind of pushy and aggressive to the girls. Gonna have to buy another heat lamp, I guess - so this is gonna cost me as well.
