My newest addition 6 buff orps

Cute!!

My Eloise was like that. Now her "sister", Ava is the cuddly one

Just wanted to say goodbye for a while. I've had the shock of my life. I'm getting ready to have open heart surgery. I'm in the hospital this very moment. Surgery on Monday. Evidently I had a small heart attack and didn't know it. This is a really bad time as my neighbor presented me 4 more buffs Wednesday. Have to keep the older chicks and the little ones separate. Won't be able to put out a garden or my flowers this year. So upset

Gonna miss some of the growing up of my babies. My bigger ones outside won't be getting out to free range for a while because there are several large dogs roaming the area. Afraid to let them out. Pour girls, they loved it so.

Oh yes, I took two buffs back to the feed store and exchanged them for 2 Golden Sex Links. Mix it up a little. Anyway, signing off for about a week.
Wishing you a quick and easy recovery! Sorry I'm so late.
I really hope everything went smoothly and you're kicking your heels up!

News nugget. After a hiatus of 10 years from shows, I took Greedy to his first show today. He won Champ. Large Fowl, and went on to win Grand Champion of the Show at 8 months old. Res. Champion of the Pee Dee PC Show, was a very nice Dark Cornish bantam by Mark Beasley.

Greedy is by Monty, out of a Monty daughter.

Handsome guy :)

Best books ever. Imagine looking out your window seeing a mini person riding one of your chickens. Little reigns, little saddle.

Buff Orpingtons were recommended by none other than the wonderful author, Barbara Kingsolver. Her book, Animal, Vegetable, Miracle changed my life. I love my Buffs. They are prodigious layers, although they can be very broody for extended periods of time. I recently lost a broody hen to a feral cat because she refused to leave the nest. BTW, I am a suburban farmer: love this life!
That's so sad the cat got her. Was she sitting on peeps or eggs? Hope you got rid of the cat.

Hello, All! I'm a kindergarten (gifted education) teacher at PS 230 Brooklyn, NY. For the past 23 years, I've had a Spring science project of learning about the life cycle of chickens. For many years my school had a project hatching and re-introducing ring necked pheasants to historic Brooklyn Green Wood Cemetery. For the past two years my class has incubated Black Jersey Giants and given the chicks to my dear friend who lives in suburban Long Island and who keeps several breeds of chickens, runner ducks, and three dwarf goats. She is a well known dog fancier and breeds and shows Border Terriers and Havanese.
This year my friend has requested Buff Orpingtons, a breed she dearly loves because of their gentle personalities.
Would you be able to recommend someone who sells fertilized Buff Orpington eggs?
Thank you in advance for your assistance.
Sincerely, Alison

I started reading this book and am really enjoying it! Thanks for mentioning it.
