*Buff Orpington Thread!*

I believe there are some mixes in the American hatchery BO lines, so we get these darker feather splashes showing up occasionally.
The mix helps the egg laying rate. They are good layers their first two years, so some dirty looking feathers are not a terrible price to pay. Ours helped us paint the coop, so they were buff, barn red, and brown.

Nooo, darn it! My town regs say no to any roosters. The grain store where I got him will take him back, as the owner has a "broker" who accepts them...AKA he will probably land on someone's dinner table in the not too far future. Total bummer, as he has really been hand raised and socialized since day 1. He's a nice little rooster.....

I really need to learn to not get so attached so quickly...I am such a newbie.

Oh for heavens sake! Why not try posting an as on Craigslist in your county and your two neighboring counties with these pics? Someone who can have a boy will want him. You have at least another 8 weeks or so before he starts to crow and if you keep renewing your ad current someone will surely scoop him home to a forever home. I renewed mine every 48 or so when I had one that I was trying to adopt out. The renew button appears every 48hrs next to your ad. It's better than the dinner table and worth a ****.

Congrats!

I am the proud new mama of some stunning BO's. I recently added a trio of some super stunning 12 week old BOs to my 4 hatchery girls.

The trio chicks are clearly way bigger, fully, and have more feathers than the hatchery girls and they are younger too.

This makes one cockerel and 6 pullets.

The names are still up for debate! I am so excited because my hatchery girls are 21 weeks old on Wednesday and I am anxiously awaiting THE FIRST EGG!!! I cant wait for the BABIES!!!

My sweet cockerel and his two girls are my Trio thanks to the DragonLady!

Ok now this one is a hatchery girl who jumped up on my arm which was a first for me and her and as you can see I am shocked and excited... and also a little scared that she would peck my eye because she is really gawking at my eyeball with interest lol


They roost every night in this exact formation... Looking at the photo, the Trio is always on the left and the hatchery girls are always on the right with the cockerel in the middle...

WOW! You can really see the difference. No offense to your hatchery girls

My 2 are from a hatchery too and I love them! One is super fluffy, the other is more slender.

Why is my buff orpington getting these color's???

Mine were from Meyer as well and they have a few on their tales. They got them much later though.

I'm pretty sure this 7 weeker is a roo. What do you think?? Would love thoughts!

Why can't you keep him?
We're not allowed any in city limits, for noise reasons. I had to rehome an EE and a Silkie.
But AFTER that, I found out there is something called a rooster collar, which helps (not eliminates) "noise",,aka crows lol
So....IF you are super attached, you may look into one of those. Life goes on after roos though
I was very attached but I was lucky enough to score good homes for them, with plenty of ladies for them.
