I am looking for the best egg laying chicken.Cross or Purebred. I don't care. But I was told that the Orpington is one of the best during cold winter months and this is something I am looking for. Can anyone help me ?

I'm not sure about the best, but my Orpingtons did lay well during their first winter. This past winter was not so good. They just started laying again this week (they stopped in November) My leghorns lay more, but I hear they also stop earlier in life. In general chickens lay best their first winter, but the next go around you have to consider molting and day light hours more-so.

I got my first buff Orpington chick today. She's very cute. I think my son is in love. We named her Buffy.

It is so much fun getting your first chicks!! Does she have any other chicks to play with?? Chickens are a flock animal and can get really stressed and possibly die with out fellow brood mates. Can we get picture of her!?!?!?!

I already have 3 full grown chickens. I'm planning on adding her to the flock. Should I get another as a litter mate with her? I was told by the feed store that one would be fine, as long as she would eventually join a flock.

I myself would get her 1-2 more brood mates. But when I get chicks I never just get 2-3 the second I see those babies I get more
