*Buff Orpington Thread!*

No problem! My Buff Girls are a favorite, but since the weather is warm, I think ALL the girls are starting to be favorites

For some reason all of our roosters prefer the Buff girls. Must be something about those bodacious fluffy bums that drives them wild. I've been busily sewing hen aprons for ours and the hens are strutting around like models on the runway.

What's strange is that we have Welsummer hens as well as the Buff O's and the roosters still go for the Buffs. Of course the Buffs don't beat up the boys the way the Wellies do if they push their attentions too far.

One of our Buff hens just presented us with 8 adorable chicks:


Here she is with one of her first hatched chicks peeping out from under her wing. Her brood of Buff O and Buff O/Welsummer cross chicks are now two weeks old.

What a loving little momma she is.

I can hardly wait for another one to go broody so I can shove some Black and Lavender O eggs under her. I really have come to love the Orpington breed of chickens.

I just found pics of fluffy and fluffo wjen they were about 4-5 months old!! And boy were they UGLY!! Lol these pics are when we bought them

Not ugly at all! Very handsome family. Our Buff O roo is just a year old and is only now starting to fill out and be truly a work of art.

Here he is at 6 months of age and just starting to 'fluff' out.


Now at a year his hackle feathers have doubled up and he has filled out. I kinda call this his awkward teen age phase. But he is a sweetheart of a roo.

Thanks bit o poultry19. Unfortunately he knows he's beautiful. He lost about half his points on his comb and about half of his wattles over the winter due to frostbite but he's still IMHO a gorgeous rooster. He was supposed to be a hen and did everything contrary to roosters when he was growing. He feathered out early, he didn't have big feet and legs, he wasn't bossy. The two roosters who were sexed as male turned out to be aggressive but Red was a sweetheart from the beginning. The two trouble makers went away, Red stayed. Here he is when he was just feathering out.


Don't those wattles and comb just SCREAM rooster?

Just got my first buff orpingtons

They were straight run from tractor supply, so hopefully at least 1 of the 8 is a pullet lol.

Yay!! Lol isn't it ALWAYS so temptimg to buy chicks when you see em??!! And of course you're bound to have some pullets in there somewhere! Lol can you give us an update on what the chickies turn out to be?

Oh, of course. We just got them today, so they're still teeny little fluffs. I'm sure I'll be wanting to talk constantly about them....they're already sweet

Though one is a tad lethargic....hopefully the save a chick mixes help it out.
