I have some BOs with my Silkie and they have been together for about 6 weeks and they're doing fine! My Silkie "loves" one of my BO roosters!

Great! I'm so happy Buff Orpingtons and silkies can coexist with eachother, can't wait until I can order them at the end of summer!!!!!!

I had 4 BO pullets, 1BO cockerel and 1 silkie cockerel all raised together living in harmony just fine. At about 6 mos we had to remove the BO cockerel because he was too aggressive while mating and nearly scalped one of the pullets. We then had the silkie cockerel with the girls with no issues till about 8 months when we had to rehome him due to his aggression towards my kids. So while we got rid of both roos, I don't think size differences were ever an issue. And actually one of the BO pullets was besties with the silkie cockerel and would hang out with mostly him and not the others so much.

Be careful mixing female silkies with larger breeds, even docile Orpingtons. Silkies can act odd which makes them a target to larger breeds, and their crests can obscure their vision. I don't recommend mixing the two. Roosters are often okay and can hold their own with large breeds.

Then I may have to rethink the idea of adding BOs to my silkie flock, wouldn't want anything to happen to my little fuzzy friends...... :/

Too funny. My brother raises chickens i just started 7 months ago.Hestopped by a couple days ago. I was showing and telling everything chicken he hadn't seen yet. He said you're in deep gone chicken crazy addicted. Laughed and asked me when I'm getting a bator. As far as money goes I'm a do it yourself kind of girl if possible. I have coop 2 all planned for my new bantams. Converting old swing set and have scrap sheet metal and wood laying around.

Oh, you sound like me...lol I have been raising my laying chickens for 13 months, and I am in deeper than about anybody I know..... Hatch-a-holicism has struck hard and I currently have three pens, and trying to scrape the money together to get a 50' poultry net for the newest coop and a 20 chick heating plate so I can brood in two separate boxes, I already have a heating pad that I can fit about 25 on, but I have 55 eggs in the incubator right now, and they are all kicking! My dad is a landscaper/general contractor, so I have all the scraps I need! Hoping to build another breeding pen before the year is out....

Of the thirteen BO eggs in the incubator, 12 are going strong! I pulled one dud today.
