*Buff Orpington Thread!*

Hello everyone! You probably remember Dragon, my son's chick.

They are about 4-5 weeks old today and I seeing a HUGE difference between Dragon and the other 3 BOs. We bought them at our local feed store. I'm wondering if Dragon is actually a BO bc "he" looks so different from the others. I say "he" bc we my son says Dragon is a boy. Lol.

Dragon also has yellow legs, so I don't think he's an Orpington, maybe a buff rock.

That is very interesting, I hadn't noticed the yellow legs. Hmmmm....now I will post in the breed and gender forum see if anyone can help identify. Thanks!

Dragon looks like a female. The one behind her in the top 2 photos looks like a male. Look at my post just above.

I see the short tail feathers! Thanks! We really did want to have a BO roo so that makes me very happy.

Males do not grow tail feathers at that age.
That is how I tell them apart at that age.
In fact this is a photo of the seven chicks that I got last July and the sex that each one of them turned out to be. Be sure to notice the tail feathers (or lack of) and wing feather lengths. This photo was taken at 2.5 weeks of age. It shows that the tail feather length is an excellent indicator of sex at that age.

okay, so now I'm pretty sure she/he is a girl! she/he does have tail feathers and has a little bit darker feathers coming in....
