Sorry she was wet. It had started raining and she decided she wanted to stay outside lol! I noticed that one of my roosters attempted to try and mate with her a couple days ago.

thank you both for your condolances, this is my first egg layer that died. she was only 1 years old just this last week.

redder combs on 19 weeks should mean they are becoming egg layers soon

for the hen/cock question i like to look at the tail as well, but guess could be the right one is cockeral
also though ive had hens that one just grew her crest a bit faster and bigger bc she herself was the biggest of them sorry its not a definite answer

Yay! I only have one hen laying at the moment out of 10 (she's my only buff hen... Lucky me :sick She's one of my favorites) I'm sorry about your hen :( Do you know how she died?

i don't know bc she loved to eat she was a fatty and we were at like 103 F yesterday i had the air on in their mansion it was 80 degrees, they had ice bottles. i literally fed all them including her a snack, 3 hours later i come out and everyone was out of the mansion hoet (it was 5 pm so it was shady now, they had left the mansion bc she was dead inside there, so my only guess is she was just too hot or fat despite the air conditioner it wasn't enough?? hens can be very sensitive i guess

Aww that's that's sad. It always still ks when you don't know exactly what happened to your chicken :/

I'm sorry @ChickenMama6RIR but I just * to mention your Cockerel/Pullet ratio. How many females for each males do you have in the pen

*should say had here. Sorr my keyboard is not cooperating.

Lol it's ok. I have 10 hens and 2 roosters. I am planning on getting rid of one of them. I'm just not sure which one yet :/

I just got my first two buff chicks. Is it true that hens feather out first and quicker then males? And if by a week old if they don't have any feathers would it be a good bet they're a rooster?
That has been my experiences, but I wouldn't bet 100% on it.
