I have three and they are all going on four months old. Not one crow yet! One did make a woefully awful sound just this morning. I'm not sure you'd even call it a crow! Whatever it was, he flapped his wings while making it.

Did a somersault off the high bar and landed on his feet!

Yesterday was a hot day...We had Watermelon with dinner and the flock got to have ice cold Watermelon Rind as a late afternoon treat. They loved it.





They followed their treat with a nice afternoon Dust Bath...The life a Back Yard Chicken.

My cockerel, Pecker, is starting to crow. He's getting very good at it. Unfortunately we are not allowed to have ROOs in the city limits, so Pecker needs to go. I found him a nice farm out in the country, they have a flcok of laying hens and a flock of meat birds...Pecker will be joining the meat birds.

I cannot tell you how much he will be missed.

I think Buff Orps just tend to have a lot of late bloomers. My oldest are 4 months old all for sure looked just like hens. All of a sudden bang 2 days ago one's comb jst stared swelling and groing larger and the flaps under the chin as well. All my younger peep I could tell anywhere from 3-6 weeks. Is it possible for some hens to just have features kind of like a cockerel? Mine are all quiet- another perk of the breed they only squawk when someones arguing.

now that the cute is out of the way. I had another post #167 asking for opinions on if I had a boy well here are my updated pictures.
they are 15 weeks and the one with the bigger comb "Sobe" well is obviously on the left in this picture....

And from behind "Sobe" is on the right



I adore my sweet Chickens!! these orps are something else, I hope they all get to stay!! (even my hubby loves them secretly)

Both buffs are pullets!

Does anyone know the sex of my 7 week old? It was sexed as a pullet, but i just want to make sure.
