could anyone help me out and post a pic of a 5 or 6 week old Buff Orpington roo and hen. i have quite an assortment of babies and only one BO, which i suspect to be a little roo considering she/he is the largest one in there and has quite the comb coming in compared to the other babies. i would take pics but camera got dropped in a lake

lol fishing accident. but i would love to prove myself wrong and have a perty girl, i got the chick out of the pullet bin but i have my doubts.

Here is a picture of my 6 week old BO with a 5 week old RIR. The BO has a bit of a comb but it has stayed pale. She is the largest of all my pullets and had a little comb earlier than the rest. I too had doubts. She is 7 weeks now and I'm sure she is a pullet. I love her! She is friendly and kind of goofy!

I found this in an old post to me. It was very helpful in helping me determine sex.

For future reference:

According to UC Davis Veterinary Care Program.
2. Physical Characteristics (4-6 weeks of age)
a. Comb – The cockerels comb is medium size and pinkish, the pullets is small and yellowish.
b. Legs – The cockerel’s legs are sturdy and long, the pullets are finer and shorter.
c. Tail – The cockerel’s tail is stumpy and curved, the pullets is longer and straight.
d. Back – The cockerel has a thin line of stub feathers down the center of his back, the pullet has more advanced feathering along the center of her back.
e. Side of neck, flank and crop – The feathering in the cockerel in these areas is poorly advanced, the pullets feathering in these areas is well advanced.
f. Wing bows – In the cockerel the wing bows are bare, in pullets the wing bows are covered with small feathers.

I think you are correct with your gender--the one on the left does look "roo-ish"

-- Orpingtons are amazingly sweet -- we have one in our "mixed lot" form McMurray and she's a doll--wants to ride on your shoulder etc...my youngest totes her around the yard--they're good buddies

! My kids named her"buffy"--original isn't it??
