I have 4 buff orpingtons that I was told when I purchased them that they were already laying. I've had them almost a month and no eggs. they are young (6mo) and I've been giving them layer feed for a month now. I'm little concerned that I shouldn't be giving them layer feed this long and not have eggs. Is this ok? The combs and wattles are starting to get red but still look more of a pinkish color. Should I switch back to starter feed? I could mix starter and layer as I have a bag of both.
Thanks and Merry Christmas!

Don't worry. I think that it may just be a matter of bad timing. Chickens slow down or stop laying during the winter months. I have 21 birds, including some Buff Orpingtons. My BOs have stopped laying all together, but were doing pretty good before winter. With 21 birds I get between 5 and 8 eggs a day now, in the spring and summer about 18. Adding extra light helps or else I would only be getting 1 or 2 a day.
