Buff Orpingtons - sexing

The spot thing is a real thing. When they are young, before adult feathers come in they look like a few leopard spots on the back of the head... I asked an older woman about this when I bought them from her and she said, "some orpingtons have this spotting." Turns out she knew they were all males when she sold them to me bc they all had the spots.

Really?? I am so hoping that but everyone else tells me rooster... I wish I could know for sure. if its a rooster i need to find a home for him but if its a hen then i keep....

so what do the spots look like? do you have a picture you can show me as an example? my BO is 9 weeks old will the spots still b there?

I have a buff I swore was a roo. She was sold to me as a hen and I was skeptical. I posted her on here and everyone said she was a pullet but that she was developing faster than the others and that was why her wattles and comb were so distinct and red. Sure enough, the day after I posted her on BYC she laid a beautiful (yet small) brown egg. I am hoping her eggs only get larger with age.

Buff do you happen to have or know where i can find a good photo depicting this? I have 6 Buffs that are 5 weeks old and starting to show signs of sex. I'd love to see this dark spot you speak of.

Buff Orps cannot be sexed by spots on their heads...........................Wish they could, I'm having a horrible time with 8 week olds.............grrrrrrrrrrrr
A couple I am sure of and some I keep changing my mind.

Thank you.. The only reason I have my doubts is because Jello my BO is a bully but a big baby at the same time. Its bigger then the Mille-Fleur-dUccle-Bantam/Silkie mix that was born 2 days before, legs thick and always making wierd chirping baby chick noises... does that mean anything? hyper wants to eat eat eat

No the spots are just on the fuzz they go away. I don't have any pictures, all mine are too old as well.
