I have a few 8 MONTH old buffs. They have been starting to look like roosters about a month ago. Today they both started crowing! Isn't this a little late for them to start being roosters? LOL.

Chickens don’t “start being roosters” lol.
They always were.
They just were late bloomers.

8 months isn't all that late for Orpingtons and technically they do become roosters. That happens when they become mature. Before that they're cockerels.
Just FYI

I have a light brahma who was originally Karen. She was so cute (or so I thought) till she grew her red wattles in and became Kevin! When he was a she, she would come up to the side of the cage, eat out of my hands, and just be a cute little nugget….
But once Kevin appeared, he ignores me, doesn’t hang out anymore and refuses my hand. But he is VERY nice, and of course, BIG! Gentle Giant (in the chicken world).

Picture from a rainy day (so he isn’t so great looking here) 😂🤣
