Buff Orpingtons

I have two barred Plymouth Rocks and they are great too....
I love the black and white coloring with the red combs and waddles..
They lay great and their eggs are a beautiful brown too.

Golden Retriever of the chicken world, now that's funny. ........I want a golden retriever, too.

Everything previously written about Buff O's is true. I've been raising them since childhood;a few decades ago,so don't ask my age! I'd like to add...they're about the best eating chicken there is except maybe for a buff rock? BO's make a fairly large roast chicken and an average sized roo will yield enough to satisfy a family of six plus leftovers to make soup for the next day. A mature hen lays nice light brown large eggs.

All y'all take care!

I have BO's with several other breeds I hatch. BO's are wonderful chickens. They are tame, peaceful, and calm. They do have white skin under their feathers, so if you going to dress them, they may not look like a yellow skinned chicken. However, they are the easiest birds to dress out. They do not have the tiny pin feathers that some other breeds have. If you just want pets, they are great. Again, the down side is they do eat more that some of the other breeds and they are not great egg layers--maybe 3-4 eggs a week. They are one of my favorite breeds.

Forgot to say this as well. If you live up north, you will love them. The cold does not seem to bother them at all. They lay right on through the winter, and mine run loose all winter long, and get upset when I have to put them in their house due to the cold (teens and lower). They are one hardy chicken.

I had a BO rooster who was a kind rooster (even though he would get spry and jump at me sometimes).

However, he died protecting his ladies from a dog attack.

He parented 6 chicks. 3 boys, 3 girls.

The 3 girls are beautiful, and all look full blood BO even though they're not.

The boys, 2 were RIR/BO mix...GORGEOUS...the other, BO/Australorp mix...I don't have any of my boys now...the one we kept just up and died (he was just born in June).

NO clue what happened...we just found him in the outer run (completely fenced, no break ins) dead.
