We acquired these 4 Buff Orps (at least I think thats what they are) and 1 Barred Rock. I'm wondering if there is any hope that any of them are females?

I am not sure of their age, can anyone help with a guess? The one with the black in the tale is heavier and has a larger comb that the other 3, but seems around the same age. The other 3 almost seem a little underweight, cause I can really feel their breast bones sticking out. Is that normal for this breed?

Sorry the pics aren't better of the Barred Rock, S/he wouldn't sit still. Can anyone tell if this might be a hen?

Hey Deb! Did you get these at the auction last night? How'd like the chicks I gave you? I'm petty sure the one is a pullet, but the other two I don't really know about.

I think the barred rock is a rooster. I'm guessing that #1 & #4 are pullets. #3 looks like a girl maybe. The one with black in the tail looks rooish to me because of the bigger comb and wattles and he has thicker legs.

Awww the chicks you gave me last night are adorable. Especially the grayish one! None of them seem to have hardly any comb at all, so I will keep my fingers crossed for girls!

Yeah, this was the box of chickens I bought last night, cause my daughter really wanted a Barred Rock. But I kind of figured the box might be full of just roos. If so, I will have to take them all back to the sale.

When I look at some of the buffs, they seem to have the shape of a hen, but then the larger combs makes me wonder. I can't tell how old they are, so I don't know when they should be crowing or laying.

Hi!

#2's hackles are pretty shiny and pointy - lookin' handsome in a manly way...

The other ones I don't know enough to make a call on...I've only had one of each sex of Buff Orps...

Good luck!

I don't notice any pointed feathers on any of them, so can't tell that way. The 3 smaller ones have real light pink combs, part of which is still light pink-whitish and the larger ones comb is much redder. I just noticed that the feet on the one with the black/green tail are almost twice as big and thick as the other 3, even though he's just about the same height. Could that mean anything?

It will be a bummer if they are all roos, cause I can't keep any more boys and I have been looking for an Orp and Barred Rock hen for months now.

I love the grayish one. I was debating to keep her, but then I knew you were on the look out for more pullets. (

I hope she is a pullet) I'm still set on my guesses. Mine will be 16 weeks old tomorrow, and my boy has the biggest comb I've ever seen. I think the suspected girls should start to lay soon. Maybe seperate them and see if they lay, you never know. They have a week to prove themselves.
