This is an old thread but in case it might be helpful: I started raising Buff Rocks in 2008. My original stock came from Ideal--a nice starter flock of a rooster and 10 hens. They were sweet, calm, and laid large brown eggs. They were great setters so I never needed to order any more chicks. About 10-12 years later a pack of coyotes slaughtered the whole flock. The next spring I ordered another roo and 10 hens to start over. Ideal sent me 2 hens and 9 roos, which I finally just gave away in disgust. I couldn't find another hatchery with Buff Rocks so eventually I bought RIRs from Meyers in Ohio.
I miss my Buffs. McMurray is sold out, so I'm planning to order EARLY next season! The Reds are great, but half the flock died in 3 years, so I'm trying to go back to my self-sustaining Buffs.
