isnt smutt a dq in showing buffs

No; it is not a DQ. It is a defect, but so is too light skin, which can be a DQ if the judge feels it is TOO light. The only buff plumage colour DQs are for solid white or red feathers.

How is everybody is doing with their Buffs? I have some due to hatch in a little more than a week, i think.

My buffs are all in the growout stage. Except for 2 hens that I started with, but my new roo is still too young yet to be doing anything with them. Although both my adult hens seem to be laying and one has a chick that still nestles up under her

She doesn't understand that the baby is still too young to live without momma, she's already thinking about raising more babies. Crazy chicken..... she is a great broody though.

Well,
I have 2 roos and 6 hens from 4 different lines, so they cant start laying soon enough for me! This will be the first time I hatch my own eggs, from silkies anyway.

What do ya think of my buff boy? I know the black in his tail isnt good but he was the best i could get...

Also, i cant find a buff hen or pullet anywhere for him! and i dont have one... If anybody has one or knows of somebody who might please let me know!

What other colors can i breed him to?

He's pretty. Maybe a little long in the back, type-wise. You should only breed Buff to Buff. Sundown Silkies has awesome Buffs, maybe she has a few girls to sell you.
