It simply means that he appears to be a much better bird; almost entirely based upon type. Different photos on a different day with different postures could make a difference. Both have nice dark combs, heavy foot feathering, soft tails, a lack of black in their wings and tails, good-sized crests and nice beards. I don't really care for the shape of Aurthur's comb, and the way it pushes his crest back. Eggbert is not very typey, but that could be because he is still young (you didn't mention their ages). Neither have as smooth and even buff colouring as I prefer, but I have see far patchier looking buffs.
I am a newbie to silkies, but have jumped in with both feet. Sonoran can you explain typey or type to me? I have heard about the posturing in the S shape, is that what everyone means? Thank you so much!!
Type is shape. RIR are shaped like a brick; moderns like a heart, cochins like a ball, etc. A typey silkie has a wide body and tail, a relatively short back and neck. Yes, if looked at from the side, you can use an S to describe the shape; I prefer to think of them as looking like three intersecting spheres: the largest is the body, next is the tail and smallest is the head. The tail should not be quite as tall as the head, but close. (Oh, and head and tail shouldn't intersect except when the bird is preening
) Wings should be carried level with the ground and relatively close to the body, but not so as to look like they are pinching it.
