A red sexlink is not always red. Hatchery's RSLs are always red, because their sire is always a red rooster (such as a RIR, NH, or PR), but a person can cross a lot of different birds to make "red" sex-links.
A red sex-link is just a bird with a red or gold father and a recessive white mother. A LOT of breeds can be crossed to make "red" sex-links, and many of these won't even look like your typical red sex-links from a hatchery, especially if they're sired by a buff rooster.
