I have 3 Buff Orpingtons and they have been out in their new coop for about 2 weeks. I noticed last week that 2 of them had a little sore on the top of their beaks. I figured it was probably from them pecking through the hardware cloth they do that a lot chasing after mosquitos. So one of them has already healed up but tonight when I went out to talk to them the other buffs beak has gotten a lot worse. I go out to see them multiple times through the day and it wasn't like this earlier this afternoon so I am guessing she must have caught it on something. So I brought her inside and put a little ointment on it but I don't know of any other options. So do I need to separate her from the others til she heels? I put her back out there for the night cause they were already going to roost so I thought she would be ok. So does anyone have any suggestions on anything else I can do for her? Thanks

I guess I would put some antibiotic ointment on it, and make sure that no one is pecking her beak, and make sure she's not reinjuring it. She should be okay. Make sure she's eating.

Thanks a lot for your input. Any advice is greatly appreciated!! I went out this morning and checked on her and it seems to be about the same. I am just thankful it's no worse. I brought her in and put some more ointment on it and the other buffs aren't pecking on her at all so that's really good. I think she will be ok it's just gonna take some time to heal.

I think everything is scary when me or someone gets chickens for the first time. Thank goodness there's a place like BYC where so much information is pooled and veterans help newer members, and they pay it forward at some point.
