I have two buff wyandotte girls. They are not laying yet but I dont know the exact age of them. I bought them as chicks in May, so they are getting close to laying age. However they are small girls and dont seem to be growing? I have never had buff wyandottes before, could they be bantams? They are very sweet but low on pecking order. I pull them aside to give them extra feed as I worry they are not growing enough, but know I am thinking they may not get bigger? Can anyone tell me more about the buff Wyandottes? They are my favorites, but I know nothing about them.
Thanks!

There is a Bantam and a Standard Wyandottes..
You may have a Bantam.. A picture would help...

I can get more today if you want.

Going by there size compared to the dog crate in the second picture and the amount of feather they have for there size and age and I am going to say that they are bantams...

So should I stop trying to force feed them?
I cant find much on the internet about the buff wyandotte breed, can you tell tell me when they normally start to lay, what color egg (I presume white?) and why cant I find anyone who has more of them? I would love to get a roo for them!
Thanks!

Wyandottes, bantams or standard, lay light brown eggs. If you look closely you will see a pattern of tiny light spots, especially on eggs from young birds. I think ours started laying at appr 5 months old.

I don't think they would mind a little extra treats, but force-feeding will only make them fatter, not larger.

I would NOT try breeding a bantam with a standard. The standard roos get HUGE compared to the bantam hens, and way too heavy for them - and I don't think a bantam roo would get any action with a standard hen.

Oh yeah! I love eggs of diffrent color and I dont have many brown layers! I cant wait! Thanks! Now I need to go find me a banty roo!
These girls just get better all the time!
