Buffalo Gnats

In south Mississippi we have a new problem and its buffalo gnats. They are killing chickens and turkeys by sucking the all their blood right out of them....I didn't know of this problem and left my two EE chicks out

sadly the gnats killed them

I hope we don't get them, its so dry here. I've seen some great posts for treatment and preventatives in weeks past. So sorry for your losses.

Just googled buffalo gnats, I've always called them black flies, even in maryland. We have some here but never swarms. Knock on wood. Hmm. Need to find that concentrated garlic mosquito barrier for my birds.

Bug Zappers kill gnats too and you can make a Gnat Trap by putting 5-6 Tablespoons of Cider Vinegar into a washed plastic Jar just remove lid, and cover with a couple layers of saran wrap/cling wrap secured with rubber bands put some small holes in center of cling wrap but not by rim so they can't escape. I found this on the web and it works.
