My Coop
Move in day is coming. My 13 chicks move in to their new coop this weekend. While I'm confident in the construction of the coop and run, I know the greatest vulnerability is something, most likely a Fisher (called a Fishercat up here in New Hampshire), chewing through wood.

I've got 4' electric netting around the coop and run, but there are trees close to the electric fence- perhaps 5' away. Should I cut a buffer zone between forest and electric fence? If so, how much of a buffer do you think works be enough?
Thx for the help.

Fishers can climb but it isn't their preferred method of travel and they don't jump from tree to tree. I think your poultry netting will do the trick.
I've seen fishers bounding through the woods on my property and also have my coop and run enclosed in an electrified poultry net. I've never had a loss from predators in the pen.
What size is your fence charger in volts and output Joules?

Thx. The charger is the Intellishock 60 solar charger- 0.6 joules. I've used it to keep black bear away from my beehives, so I think it'll keep most predators out. We've had moose walk right through the fence but everything else has been deterred.
Thanks for the info on fishers not jumping.
I think bobcat can jump if they want, but they won't chew through wood, I hope.
Thanks again for the advice
