Hi all! I am new to owning chickens and I got 12 Brahma hens! I’ve had them for about 4 months now and built a 6x8 coop with an added attached nesting box and a 16x8 foot run(will be expanding soon). Now here’s my concern

I am trying the deep litter method, I’ve been adding bedding annd stirring every week or two and just recently started using Revitalime to try and prevent as many bugs. I live in mid west texas(near Abilene) and am concerned with the little bugs I’ve been finding in the crevices of the coop doors. I also already have a bunch of flies with the about of rain we’ve gotten recently and We have 3 dogs and I don’t want to risk any sort of spread to them as they have access to the coop while I’m out there. I’m not sure what kinds of bugs they are but they are small and have caused concern in my wife and I! The chickens don’t look like they’re having any issues with mites. This is the second clump I’ve found of them and in a missed ball of old food. Should I be worried? Do I need to treat for them? If I do treat for them what should I use that is natural remedies?

Thanks in advance

Aren't the chickens eating the bugs? Have you pointed the bugs out to them?

Sadly, they don't eat houseflies, as I understand it. But they should gleefully take care of most of insects (eggs, larvae, adults) that make the mistake of taking up residence in a chicken run.

Sorry, I missed that the tiny bugs were in the joints of the coop doors.

Can you take a picture of them, zoomed as high as you can, and post it here?

Without knowing what kind of bugs they are I don't see a reason to kill them. I have all sorts of harmless species of mites that live around the chicken area and they're just part of the environment, they do no harm to the birds. You want bugs to help break down and compost stuff in the run.
