Building a Coop

Oh yea if you are building the coop a glass wood floor is the best! Home Depot sells a 4 by 8 sheet of it for $30.00 it is white with a texture so there is traction. Wood floor could hold odors. Just setting it out there!

don't use chicken wire if you have natural predators in the area. raccoons can reach right through and will pull a chicken to pieces. it's gruesome and horrible.

we've been replacing the chicken wire that was originally on our coops with hardware cloth. also plan for predators that will tunnel under!

Plan for poopboards with pdz (for ease of cleaning and smell control). It was the single best thing I did for mine.

Put in more ventilation than you think you may need. Even if you are in a cold climate.

Make it twice as big (at least) as you think you will need (see post above!, so true.)
I am surprised more people don't mention pdz for chicken coops. It sounds wonderful. I plan to get some.

Use 1/4 or 1/2" hardware cloth. 1/4 is the only one that prevents mice from getting in.
