Building a farm .. Updated 8/24 Complete/ *PICS*

I've loved reading about your dream home taking shape. It looks beautiful. My husband and I built our house 6 years ago. We have the best stories to tell about our project. We frequently say it was the hardest 2 years of our life- one year for clearing the land by hand and one year for building. Six years later and it's still a work in progress. We have over 5000 pictures of the house coming together and those have proven to be invaluable for future changes and/or repairs. It's nice knowing every nook and cranny of your house- no surprises!

Good luck and continue the good work. You will love it when it's done.

I love hearing success stories ..

I think it's always a work in progress .. and that's part of it. I try to avoid the word "done" because DH is a "put it on the list -- check it off the list" sort of person and I keep telling him we have the rest of our lives, we don't have to break our necks (and backs) trying to get it all "done" right now!

My best friend(age 42) was a get all done person. His wife told him there's plenty of time. Two weeks after 42nd birthday felt bad, went to doctor, stage 4 colon cancer. He told me not to put off anything, and if you can afford it , enjoy it. I Miss Him

.. for your loss.

One of the things we have really enjoyed about getting back to the country has been the wildlife ..

I grew up in Harris County (Kingwood). your pictures take me back. i miss it. too dry up here.

first thought when i saw that copperhead, "how did you see that?" they are camalouged so well, you don't see them until it is too late. did your husband kill it with the sheers? i'd use something else. that is too close for me. i hate copperheads. rattlesnakes and cotton mouths at least don't hide. memories. i remember being chased by a cotton mouth across a golf course green. and shooting cotton mouths and diamond back water snakes while the other guy threw the fetch "bumper" in the lake for his retriever. ahhh, i remember those snakes almost the dog before if hit the snake a few times. i hear pigs will clear out the snakes. chickens might too. enjoy, it is really nice down there. we spent lots of time up near conroe, where you probably are.

i'd better shut up about back home. i'll go on forever...

I laughed at the "How did you see that?" in regards to the Copperhead. The first one I was actually squatting down, nipping off a sapling pine at the ground, and saw something move about 10 inches away .. eeeeek. As soon as it stopped moving, it disappeared. I stood up, took my boot and moved some leaves, it moved again .. eeek! Luckily it was abou 50 degrees out and it was a real sluggish snake.

The second one, I saw on the road, after dark, in my headlights.. we took the pics and helped him on across the road .. I guess we were feeling charitable ..

The best part of the night for me was when DD17 hugged me and said "It's really great to spend time with ya'll."
