this has been the greatest heart warming thread.. It's been so much fun watching your home come alive and it's just coming out even more than i could have emagined.. Your a lucky woman.

and......about your hubby, he's just stressing.. Unfortunatly, when im the "responsible" one so to speak (as im guessing your hubby feels he is), i think i have to spout those things just incase someone else is thinking them. Your house is unbleavably gorgeous.. He'll be proud too....

The only "downside" to butcher block?? If you set your cutting board on an empty counter you could "lose" it!!!!!!!

Nothing wrong with laminate! Looks good!

I have laminate at home and it's still alive 40 years old and other than being outdated, it's holding up fine.

We have granite in the condo I live in for school. Pots clank, glass dishes certainly don't stand a chance if you accidentally tip it over on the counter, and boy do greasy stains really show. Plus... if you chip the stuff, $$$$$.

texasgal, I think your kitchen is beautiful.
I have the granite countertops and yes, they are gorgeous, however, let me share the downside of them with you.
They HAVE to be cleaned with granite cleaner frequently and polished with granite polish or they look dull(and yes, everything shows when the sun hits them).
They have to be sealed once a year with this really stinky sealer.
People say "you can cut right on them and set hot pots on them, no problem"-guess what? no way will I cut on them, I use a cutting board and I NEVER set a hot pot on them(I always use a trivet) because we spent 2 gazillion dollars on them and I am not risking ruining them.
Here's the biggie for me-if I ever want to remodel my kitchen, it will have to be done around those countertops BECAUSE we spent 2 gazillion dollars on them so they are here to stay.
Granite countertops are for RESALE VALUE!
Tell DH to be happy with your lovely countertops and your lovely home. Ya'll should be very proud.
