Building a farm .. Updated 8/24 Complete/ *PICS*

Most of us will never be able to build our very own dream home. You all are so blessed to be able to. All of those things he's not happy with can be changed later down the line if he wants to save for them. Tell him to relax, take a step back, and realize just how lucky he is.

Your home is beautiful. You have no need to be embarassed about anything. Do you think you'd have this many people following the construction progress if we all thought your house was inferior?? I'm in real estate and very rarely does a new home construction stay under budget. There are always changes taking place during construction. Not saying that you need to change anything there are just newer products that come out during the build or you find something you didn't see before. As far as ease of upkeep, I would choose laminate counters!! We are do it youselfers and bought a house that needed remodeling. The counters were original from the 1950's. If I could have afforded to put in new counters I would have but I couldn't. So we pulled off the old laminate and put donw 6" tiles and did the backsplash too. It looks really good and now I love it but at the time I would have chosed something else. They always say that building a new house is a real test of your marriage!

I wish you and your DH many years of Happiness & health.
Please try explaining to your DH that the important part of that house is your building it together!
That the only things required in it are the love you two share, that is what makes it a home, not just a building.

I have to remind myself sometimes that the building (very old neglected house not up to code) is not as important as the things we feel inside and around it.
I should have done many things differently here as well. I am learning as I go.
However it is livable, it is mine. the only payment here is the electric, heating oil, phone & internet. I can live without to not have a house payment/mortgage. I can drive a 2nd hand car to not have a car payment.

I love your house and the pictures you have posted, they have given me ideas on a few things I would like to change here in time......I will not go into debt to have them however.

your house is beautiful and I would give anything to have a house like that. I live in a refurbished mobile home... One day we will build the house of our dreams. The fire place can be redone at a later date. my dad has been building his house for well over 15 years. he hired someone to build the actual house and he is doing the inside all by himself. my brother was helping him until he got killed 12 years ago and he put his house on hold.he started working on it aagain a few years ago. they live in the house while they are finishing it up. I only think he is finishing it now is they want to sell it eventually because my brother was killed at the end of his drive way and he rembers it everytime he has to come and go from his property. Things can be changed later when you have the money to up grade... please keep the pics comming. I really enjoy watching your progress...

Embarrassed....please....I wish I could be doing what you guys are doing!!!!!

Its like I tell my boyfriend when he wants steak and all we could afford is hamburger...I'm practical...period!!!

Would he rather I be that girl that wants the top of the line in everything? That would make him the guy working his fingers to the bones just to give me a Coach purse. Reality can be harsh, I am fine with my Walmart bag.

Please post more pics...I am living vicariously(sp) through your dreams....

Were we seperated at birth??

What's a Coach purse???

Home building/buying is a very stressful part of a marriage. Don't let it get you down!

When all is said and done, you will love your home when it is done.

If DH doesn't see that you are happy, smack him with a wooden rolling pin, then with a marble one.
And ask if the difference in price made a difference in the size of the bump on his head.

Great idea, thank you! Fish find their way into the rice fields of their own afford. Ducks might just catch on. smile My sister in law has laying ducks under her rice store - they never see water except in their drinking bowl and never venture out. I'll have a word with her now that planting has finished.

I am very fascinated by the duck/rice system. Almost makes me wish I still ate rice! LOL

This experiment is being repeated all over the globe with great results. Here is the blog of an American organic farm that uses it...
