building a new coop. expanding flock

I have had a small coop for some time. I am building a new one twice the size. I see most coops are off the ground. is this for any special reason. I'm
going to build my new coop on a cement slab. my old one is on 4x4 off the ground.

Some do because they have snakes and other predators that a raised coop would protect them from. Here, in Wisconsin, that wouldn't work so great, but some do it because where it has to be is often wet. Or, it's a very small coop, so it's handier to clean it if it's up off of the ground.

We have a temp coop on 18" square pavers, and the two Amish garden sheds are on a base of pea gravel, so on the ground. The base around the bottom is sealed.

I'd always go with what you're doing before building a raised one but it's personal preference a lot of the time too.

Some coops are raised to take advantage of the space underneath to extend the run (usually smaller set ups with limited space). Some are raised to help deter pests/predators, for accessibility, or to deal with terrain or climate issues.

My coop is about 6" off the ground simply because we have a lot of ground moisture, so it protects the wood and came in handy when we had flooding, as the flood waters passed under it instead of into the coop.

Thanks I just wanted to be sure and being that I already have a nice concrete slab I will build on it. I increased the flock by 3 and they are just starting to lay again. so, Thinking of bigger and better now that I know more. I am looking forward and will hatch a few more.
