Building a new coop, suggestions welcome

Both gables and ridge will be good, not the same as in a residential attic.
Louvers might be good if you get wind driven rain/snow.
The fly rafters(I love them!!) might make louvers unnecessary

Not sure how much you can scale up with the foot print(6x6'?) you have.
Wall framing is 8'x8' (yeah, the framing is 12' tall at the top of the roof) and they'll free range the yard during the day. I'll be purchasing a Runchicken T50 automatic door. At 4 sqft/chicken that's 16 birds, but I don't think it will be a big problem eventually getting up to about 25 birds when 20 of them are being grown out for slaughter rather than permanent residents. but the general idea is having the capacity to do more than just 4-5 laying hens and be maxed out. It is also being built so that it can be converted to a second shed with ease.

Roofing felt is on.

Working again today, not where I wanted to be at this point, but not half bad. Got the sheathing finished, cut the opening for nesting box access. Wrapped with tyvek and flashed openings. Got corners and starter strip for siding installed. Down to shingles and siding before it's a building and then all I'll have to do is make it a coop. Threw a couple scraps of OSB up in the attic to see how that would work.

I am pleased to report that even with no door, the only water that got inside was the mud splash from the front during the rain yesterday. I'm recovering from planned surgery right now so construction is on hold.

Finally got a day that didn't conflict with the weather or hunting. Put almost half the shingles up. Not bad for a first timer while also monitoring the 3 year old.
