Building a ramp.

(Yeah, poop could accumulate, I thought of that too, but the plywood corners don't extend so far that we can't get inside to clean if we like)

I added a third concrete block at the bottom, but didn't move the top. This morning I was actually able to observe them coming out (usually they take their time coming out after I open the door). Two of them walked down the ramp, but, as folks suggested might be the case, they spent a bunch of time thinking about jumping on to it, and one of the ones that flew down didn't like it and probably would have used the ramp if the attachment point were easier. I might try to add another piece on top of the frame that holds up the door, or add attachment points to the door. The former would be better if I can figure out a way to do it, as then I wouldn't have to move it every day.

You could extend the support platform so the ramp side edge is a bit beyond the edge of the door and the ramp could attach higher.

You could add a 1 by under the frame with a riser at the ramp end to get the ramp up to the level of the door when it's open.

I'd like to see what would happen just for fun, if you hung the ramp on the front of the frame, just assuming that is the direction the chickens want to go and the other way is a detour. Get them all use to it and then swap it back.

My ramp is hinged. I can pull it shut with an attached paracord that runs to a hook in front of the tractor. The cord is protected by 1/2" conduit. This keeps predators out if they manage to dig their way into the lower grazing area below the tractor. The hole is 12x24" and the ramp is about 12x40". The ramp hangs about 3" above the ground when lowered.
